Noise Barriers

Zug fährt entlang Lärmschutzwände

In many cases our noise barrier panels are an ideal solution for infrastructure projects, combining good sound absorption and sustainability with design flexibility. In addition to our standard range of noise barrier panels, we also manufacture custom panels. Being involved in projects at an early stage is extremely important, as we can then start thinking immediately about the best possible solution together with the customer.

Sustainability

Our noise barrier panels are made from wood-fibre concrete, which absorbs sound. That means they stop sound energy being reflected. This wood-fibre concrete is produced from clean, waste wood (spruce) left over from the wood-processing industry. We supply the sawdust created during our production process to the animal bedding industry, where it can be put to further use. Our production process is environmentally friendly and the light weight of our noise barriers allows them to be installed quickly and easily. They are also demountable, which means they can be reused at other locations.

Custom products

We offer our noise barrier panels in a range of shapes, dimensions and colours. Our standard panels are smooth, profiled or textured. Panels can also be manufactured to the customer’s own design for use on any project. That means we can take the wishes of local residents and the project architect into account. Involving us in the process as early as possible is important to achieve the best result.

Natural

As our noise barriers are made from wood-fibre concrete, they can be integrated into the environment in a natural way and there are also options available if you want to grow plants on the panels. As an added bonus, covering the panels with plants in this way also prevents graffiti.

Our noise barrier panels are available in a range of different types and dimensions:

  • GS
  • GSK (lightweight)
  • TE (Tunnel Elements)
  • SSS (Sound Safe System)
  • Environmental panel

GS type

Our standard GS-type noise barrier panels consist of a layer of reinforced concrete, cladded with smooth or profiled wood-fibre concrete on the track- or road-facing side (i.e. the side on which the sound is absorbed). We offer profiles in absorption classes A2 to A5 in accordance with EN1793-1. You can also opt for a variant or use your own design for the cladding. All panels are compliant with sound insulation class B4 in accordance with EN1793-2. The most common dimensions for this type of panel are 4x1 metres, 6x1 metres and 6x2 metres, although lengths of between 4 and 8 metres and heights of up to 3.65 metres are also possible. Alternative dimensions are available on request. Please contact us for further details [link naar contactgegevens].

As for the side of the panels that will be seen by local residents, it is possible to choose from the following variants:

  • smooth finish
  • brushed texture
  • sand-blasted pattern
  • exposed aggregate
  • smooth wood-fibre concrete (sound-absorbing on both sides)
  • profiled wood-fibre concrete (sound-absorbing on both sides)
  • texture based on a mould [texture mat]

All our noise barrier panels are installed between, partly between and partly in front of (concealed) or completely in front of the flanges of steel or concrete posts. In addition to the standard colour of natural grey, we can also supply our panels in a wide range of other colours. These colours are achieved using integral pigments, but it is also possible to coat the panels in a RAL colour on site.

Natural

It is easy to grow plants on our noise barrier panels without the need for any additional steps. As an added bonus, covering the panels with plants in this way also prevents graffiti.

GSK type (lightweight)

Our GSK-type noise barrier panels feature a layer of wood-fibre concrete on both sides. This is smooth or profiled on the track- or road-facing side (i.e. the side on which the sound is absorbed). We offer profiles in absorption classes A2 to A5 in accordance with EN1793-1. On the side that will be seen by local residents the layer of wood-fibre concrete is always smooth. The concrete core is profiled and incorporates four hot-dipped-galvanised reinforcing bars. All panels are compliant with sound insulation class B4 in accordance with EN1793-2.

This type of noise barrier panel differs from the GS type in that these panels have a lighter weight per square metre of approximately 200 kilograms. In other words, these are lightweight noise barrier panels. This type comes in four standard dimensions: lengths of 4 or 5 metres and heights of 0.5 or 0.6 metres. Alternative lengths of up to 5 metres are possible in consultation.

All our noise barrier panels are installed between, partly between and partly in front of (concealed) or completely in front of the flanges of steel or concrete posts. In addition to the standard colour of natural grey, we can also supply our panels in a wide range of other colours. Colours achieved using integral pigments are our preferred option, but it is also possible to coat the panels in a RAL colour on site.

SSS (Sound Safe System) type

Our SSS-type noise barrier panels are based on an innovative system that combines our own Durisol sound barrier panel and the ‘step barrier’ of Haitsma Beton. SSS-type panels can be installed on an asphalt surface without foundations and also moved to a different location. That means they are reusable and therefore a sustainable solution. These noise barrier panels feature hot-dipped-galvanised edging as standard. The system is ideal for semi-permanent use in urban areas where there is limited space for installation. This product has been honoured with an innovation prize from the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure, Public Works and Water Management.

There are two possible applications for the SSS type:

  • roadside installation
  • installation on the central reservation

It is worth noting that combined installation at the roadside and on the central reservation is extremely effective acoustically.

Environmental-panel type

Our environmental-panel type is a noise barrier panel incorporating a new type of wood-fibre concrete that we developed ourselves. This wood-fibre concrete not only absorbs sound, but can also improve air quality. The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) has demonstrated that this type of wood-fibre concrete breaks down both nitrogen monoxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). Furthermore, the open structure of the concrete is ideal for capturing particulates. We can also apply a special paint to the panels. Under the influence of light (photocatalysis) this converts nitrogen monoxide into a harmless substance that is simply washed away when it rains. By using this paint on our environmental panels, we expect to achieve an even more beneficial environmental impact.
